For the past few years I have compulsively kept track of every single movie and TV episode I could have possibly watched. Now is that special time of year where I tally everything up and see what happened. Now, if you'll indulge me...
Movies seen in 2019: 200
HERE is the raw list for your reading pleasure.
That's right! An even 200. This is actually a significant downgrade from our trends. I hit 249 in 2018. It is just higher than the 198 I watched in 2015. We made a big graph last year. Let's update that:

This is probably getting too long to track. But there are a few important things here. My first-time viewing percentage actually increased slightly, and streaming stayed pretty steady, but theater and TV watchings had some significant drops. It may be weird to say but by total DVD viewings were 31.5%, which is up 7% from last year. I don't know what this means.
The only movies I saw twice were The Fellowship of the Ring (2002) and Avengers: Endgame (2019). This leaves 198 individual movies.
Here is a bigger breakdown by specific media:
-->
Hulu keeps rising, pretty much taking the 5% that Netflix Streaming dropped. DVD surprisingly strong and other streaming services are creeping up, although Kanopy actually decreased.
By Decade:
-->
-->
These percentages are actually largely in line with last year, with a little less representation from the 60s and 70s. In 2018 I made a big attempt to watch at least one film from each year from 1970 onwards. I made no such commitment in 2019 and it showed. We are definitely leaning more into the last decade, but we also had another year to work with! It might actually be weird to see the 2020s here next year...
By Year:
I actually watched a higher percentage of films from the previous two years than in years past, but there were also a ton of weird hole since I didn't seek out films from every year. Unrepresented years from the past fifty include 2007, 2003, 1992, 1987, 1982, 1977, 1975, 1974, 1971, and 1970. That's certainly quite a bit. This is largely why I tried in 2018 to see something from each year!
By Month:
May certainly takes the cake. I have never had a month where I watched more movies than May 2019. July and October are certainly rough but in June 2015 I actually only watched eight, so we've been lower.
General Trends:
We could keep going with repeat year after year viewings, but at this point it's getting a little nutty. I got my viewing of The Interview (2014) in, making sure that I see that once a year to keep my streak alive.
There were other binges. Robocop. Indiana Jones. Die Hard. Werner Herzog. Tarantino. Godzilla. Two Popes and Two Towers! It was a fun year. I'm not sure how sustainable this insane task is each year but it's fun for now. Stay tuned for our 2020s!
